A Little Bit About Al Ruscelli – Photographer, Writer, Editor, Photo Book Designer

Since the mid-1980s, Al Ruscelli has been involved at many levels with publications coordination and production, freelance and contract writing, technical editing, and professional photography. Combining past experience with newly available publication technology, he now focuses a great deal of his professional efforts toward customized and personalized coffee table photo book layout, design, and production. With his professional knowledge in the areas of photography and book production, and his personal interest in preserving photographic media—including both printed photos and digital images—he offers a unique a perspective and skills focused on designing and producing custom coffee table photo books.

Al Ruscelli creates many of these custom coffee table photo books based on his own photographic work as performed directly for clients. He also designs photo books from digital images and printed photos provided to him by his clients. When those photo books also involve pages, paragraphs, or even snippets of text, he occasionally serves as writing and editing advisor to his clients, drawing on many years of experience as an writer and editor for technical and journalistic publications.

Based on past experience, Al Ruscelli feels very strongly that almost no really good book is produced by individual effort alone. Most book projects are, by necessity and technological reality, team efforts. In fact, the producing the best custom coffee table photo books most often results from the synergy between the client's ideas and desires, the book designer's skills and creative layout interpretations, and the professional publisher's book production capabilities and expertise. Omitting any one of those key components can easily result in a lackluster book, so Al Ruscelli strives to bring all elements together in such a way that no key component is left out, and each book that he builds incorporates as much of those key elements as possible

Al Ruscelli has a love of both photography and books that goes back to his childhood, as fostered by not only his parents but his grandparents as well. That lifelong love and appreciation for photography and books in his personal life has been brought to the forefront in his professional life by his current work in coffee table photo book design, layout, and publication.
